Love Aaj Kal- My favorite Romantic movie.

(From my Facebook Page: Just Stories

Two different eras; One thing in common- LOVE.

This is a story of love through the ages. Meera and Jai meet and start dating only to part ways when their aspirations take them to different countries. In the age, where career and dreams take prominence, these two don't realize that love is the one thing that bonds everything together.

As Meera leaves for India, Jai meets Veer Singh who makes him realize the importance of love through a tale of his own that takes place several years ago. While he describes his take and desperation to just catch a glimpse of his true love, Jai at first scoffs at his ideas of love, but when Meera leaves him, he realizes that he cannot live without her.

Months pass and Meera gets married only to discover the next day that she can't get Jai out of her mind. She gets ready to leave her husband for him but then finds out that Jai has found his once chance to achieve his dreams.

Jai has everything now, but he cannot help but feel that something is missing. His vigor and passion diminishes and eventually finds out that he has not gotten over Meera.

These two reunite in India in the Old Fort- the very place Veer and Harleen had parted all those years ago.

This is a romantic modern tale that portrays real people in real situations. A must watch for Valentine's Day.

Why do I like it?

Apart from the impeccable direction by Imtiaz Ali who has a keen eye and brings life to every picturesque frame and the melodious songs, the one thing that I loved about this movie was the treatment it was given.

It was real, and I keep saying that because what I mean was that it was relatable. The characters faced problems and confusion that people generally feel. It wasn't about just meeting someone and falling in love, it was about finding out that he or she is the one.
Meera and Jai go through various hurdles and date different people they think they have common with. What they don't realize is that what they had was true love that could only be understood once they achieved all their dreams.
The fact that Jai gets to live his dream but still feel empty without Meera, was the highlight of the movie. Kudos to Imtiaz Ali for the montage in which Jai realizes that. He is shown with a spring in his step the first day of his dream job, but as days and months pass, his shoulders are visible slumped and he appears lost and sad.

Another prominent scene that made me love this movie? This:

The simplicity of this scene and the ethereal music playing in the background, needed nothing else. Veer is dying to see the love of his life just one last time, and Harleen- too shy to profess her love- shows him that she shares the same love by changing her seat and staring at him as the train moves away.
This scene required no words.

A well made film that I have watched perhaps a dozen times and dying to watch it again. A truly and literally- a timeless love story.
